What is your role and what does it entail?

I have been employed with Paramount+ for nearly four years, as Director Live Events Streaming APAC. I am a team of two locally with four remote operational staff. We are part of the global live streaming team, a function that encompasses all global live sports and entertainment across the business. This includes live entertainment events such as the Golden Globes and live sport covering A-Leagues, Socceroos, Matildas and UFC to name a few.

You’re responsible to making sure the live streams get to air on Paramount+ eg UFC, A-Leagues etc – what does that actually look like? For example, looking at the UFC fight from Sunday – how do you prepare for that event and then what are you doing as it’s playing out?

My primary responsibility is ensuring the successful delivery of live events to the Paramount+ platform. At a high level, live event operations involves guaranteeing that all live events are delivered successfully to the Paramount+ direct-to-consumer and partner platforms.

I imagine that can be incredibly stressful. What are the challenges in this role and how do you prepare/overcome when things go wrong?

The role inherently presents challenges, as is expected with live streaming operations. To mitigate these, extensive planning is undertaken to ensure all eventualities are accounted for. Furthermore, robust processes are in place to guarantee minimal disruption in the event of an issue.

What’s been your proudest achievement at Paramount?

My most significant achievement at Paramount to date was my involvement in the venue distribution project. This was a valuable project to successfully complete, enabling live and VOD Paramount+ sport content to be viewed commercially across the nation.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I value the various touchpoints my role provides, which facilitate collaboration with diverse local and global teams. Our industry is entertainment, and live sport constitutes a significant part of this; it is the driving force behind consistently aiming to deliver the best possible experience.

Who is the Maurizio outside of work? What would we find you doing on weekends?

In my personal time, I have a three-year-old daughter who keeps me very occupied. Any remaining free time is dedicated to collecting, restoring, and repairing retro gaming consoles.
