Have You Met Raghav?

How long have you been at Paramount? Tell us about your role.

I’ve been at Paramount for nearly two years, working as a Strategy Manager at Paramount Brand Studio (Paramount ANZ’s full-service branded content division). I partner with national sales leads to craft integrated media solutions connecting client marketing objectives with Paramount’s ecosystem of premium shows, digital offerings, and IP opportunities. This includes partnerships like LG x MasterChef, GTM positioning for new TV shows, or broader Agency Consortium responses for Sales Leadership.

How did you get into this career path?

It’s been an unconventional journey! I studied Law and Arts (Media and Film) at university – a turning point for me was writing my thesis on borrowing practices in creative communities and copyright law (that went on to receive a national prize and academic publication). That research opened my eyes to the limitations of copyright, which at times (and contrary to its purpose) can ‘chill’ creative expression within a society. This nurtured my ambition to work at the intersection of IP, creativity, and media.

I started my career as a commercial lawyer at a global firm, focusing on IP, Media and Tech advisory work. But even then, I was drawn to how creativity actually worked in practice. Keen to learn more, I pivoted into a creative agency brand planner role: shaping strategy underpinning creative work, turning commercial marketing problems into creative briefs, and leading pitches to brand managers and CMOs.

I was lucky to work on advertising campaigns including the communications strategy behind the Cannes Grand Prix–winning music video Play It Safe(for the Sydney Opera House’s 50th Birthday), the rebrand of a controversial Australian integrated resort, a ‘speed-running’ game for a prominent Aussie telco, and a CX strategy for a foreign ministry’s e-government  platform.

When the opportunity at Paramount came along, it was the perfect convergence of my career experiences – a chance to be a part of an iconic media company with storied IP, at a moment of bold and exciting transformation.

What is a great piece of professional advice that has stuck with you?

Do, or do not – there is no try. A piece of wisdom a former manager once shared with me (possibly channelling a Jedi master).

We hear you are a musician. What instrument do you play and who do you take your inspiration from?

I am! I sing and play acoustic guitar on my weekends. I’ve had the chance to perform at some great Sydney venues like The Lansdowne, The Oxford Art Factory, and a swathe of brewpubs. My inspiration and playing style come from a mix of artists that I adore – from Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), Chris Stapleton, and even the heavier sounds of Metallica’s James Hetfield.

What are your favourite 10 and Paramount+ shows?

My favourites include South Park, Landman and The Cheap Seats!
