Have You Met Harveen?

What is your role and what does your job entail?

In my role, I focus on promoting upcoming films, which includes collaborating with third-party companies, media outlets, and aligning promotions with the films!

Paramount Pictures is based in Sydney, and our office consists of approximately 25 people working across Marketing, Sales, and Finance.

Does this mean you got to meet Tom Cruise??

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to personally meet TC – he’s a busy individual with such a tight schedule. However, if I could meet any movie star, I’d love to sit down with Christian Bale. I’m fascinated by his method acting process and his dedication to transforming for such extreme roles. It would be incredible to get a deep dive into how he prepares and fully embodies his characters!

What has been your favourite movie launch and why?

My favourite movie launch hasn’t actually launched yet. It’s Smurfs (shameless plug!).

It’s exciting not only because of the creative strategy involved, but also due to the massive fanbase surrounding such an iconic IP (intellectual property). From a partnership perspective, we’re exploring new approaches, which is both nerve-wracking and thrilling. Plus, working with new Rihanna music is definitely a bonus!

We hear you’re studying an MBA, what’s the motivation for this, general madness or genius stroke?

I’ve always wanted to be an effective leader, whether in my personal life or professional career. As a young woman of colour, it’s crucial to have platforms where marginalised voices can be heard and recognised. I believe pursuing my MBA is the perfect way to create a ripple effect and make a meaningful/lasting impact. Just kidding! I’m insane and have a bit too much time on my hands, haha!

What do you love about your job?

I love that every day brings something fresh and stimulating! Working on iconic films keeps things dynamic, but it’s the diversity of people, brands, and projects that makes my job truly rewarding. Knowing our work brings people to cinemas – where they create lasting memories – is powerful. It’s the talent, ideas, and their impact that keeps me inspired and engaged.

Do you have a unique hobby or hidden talent?

One little hidden talent is that I’ve played in an orchestra for over 14 years, playing the bass clarinet. Whether it’s playing classical music, iconic film soundtracks, or the latest trending TikTok songs, I’ve always been passionate about music. Despite mostly listening to Hip-Hop and Punjabi Rap, I continue to compose and transpose small pieces, always staying connected to my love for music.

Do you have a mentor, or someone who inspires your career?

I have a few mentors in my life, one being my mother, who sacrificed her career as a psychologist in India to migrate to Australia for our family. She not only motivates me to leave a positive impact through my personal and professional work but also knows all my blind spots (and isn’t afraid to let me know about them!). I truly believe that transparency and honesty are the best policies and the key to growth.
