Did you have a strategy going into the race based on your strengths and weaknesses?
We really didn’t, we didn’t think we had any particular strengths that would help us, other than the fact that we like to have a good laugh and have fun, so we just went in planning to take everything as it comes and try to have a laugh.
Aside from the surprise of never knowing what was coming next, what surprised you most about being in the race?
We were actually surprised to find out that our lifestyle as touring musicians had given us some skills that were helpful on the race, all the late nights, lack of sleep, travel and dealing with uncertainty are things we’ve dealt with for over 20 years and it came in handy.
How did you handle the high pressure/conflict situations?
We just tried not to be too critical of each other and remember that we’re both under pressure doing things out of our comfort zones so we needed to be as supportive as possible because we knew losing our cool wouldn’t help.
Did you manage to sneak into any first-class lounges?
Haha, no, but we did manage to sneak a few tasty beverages.
If you could give future racers a piece of advice, what would it be?
Enjoy it, it is a once in a lifetime experience, take the time to be present in the amazing places you go, it’s easy to get so caught up racing that you don’t actually appreciate what is happening, it really is a special time so take it in.
