Up Close And Personal With The Diva From Down Under

June 5, 2023

We caught up with Trevor Ashley, the Diva from Down Under who stars in season two of Queen Of The Universe. The series is available now exclusively on Paramount+ and is hosted by five-time BAFTA TV Award winner Graham Norton, who follows the world’s most talented drag queens as they battle it out for global domination, and countries go head-to-head spotlighting their top talent.

The judges include global superstar Mel B, platinum-selling recording artist, three-time Emmy-winning producer and judge of RuPaul’s Drag Race Michelle Visage, multi-Emmy and GRAMMY® nominee Vanessa Williams, and American drag superstar Trixie Mattel.

Trevor (Instagram: @trevor_ashley) is a seasoned theatre queen who’s been part of the Australian drag community for over 20 years. Despite her many career successes (including winning the Aussie equivalent of the Tony Award) this is her first televised singing competition – and the diva from Down Under is ready to deliver! Let’s hear what Trevor has to say about her experience on Queen Of The Universe.

Your cabaret and theatre career has been fabulous to-date, what has been your favourite project?

Look there have been so many moments that I have loved! I certainly loved doing Diamonds are for Trevor at the Sydney Opera House, and I have to say, Queen of the Universe was a career highlight.

You’ve been quite a few characters in your time performing, which has been your favourite?

I love performing as Liza Minnelli – her songs, the voice and her general show biz personality is the best!

As the diva from Down Under, you certainly delivered. What performance were you most proud of in this season of Queen Of The Universe

There are a couple of performances that I really loved… but just being a part of the show and having that level of production and dancers, was truly out of this world.

What was it like performing in front of the “Pop Diva Panel” – and who was the fiercest judge?

The first time was TERRIFYING!!! I think when Michelle looked at me for the first time, I was so nervous. It was an amazing experience and Michelle (although a bit scary) was incredibly supportive and kind, as were all the judges.

What’s next for Trevor Ashley?

I’m excited to see what this show will mean – hopefully I’ll be able to go travelling again and perform across the world!
