Last week, a small selection of media and influencers were invited to an intimate MasterChef event on set, where they were given the opportunity to participate in an immersive MasterChef experience, each trying their hand at their very own Pressure Test in the MasterChef kitchen.
Our Top 12 consisted of lifestyle and entertainment journalists Jonathon Moran (Daily Telegraph), Ben Pobjie (Sydney Morning Herald / The Age), Cam Tyeson (Pedestrian TV); trade journalist Calum Jaspan (Mumbrella); comedian Christian Hull; radio producer James Coster (Fifi, Fev & Nick); TikTok creators Thomas Smallwood and Chebbo; drag queen Carla from Bankstown; meme king and influencer Tim Abbott (Worthless Twink) and foodie fans Sarah Brown and Anastasia (Agreekable). Some had never missed an episode of the 14 seasons, others had auditioned in the past and a few hadn’t turned on their oven in years. Luckily, our cameras were there to capture the good and the creative, as each MasterChef cook came to life.
On arrival, guests enjoyed coffee and breakfast in the beautiful MasterChef herb garden, settling their nerves among the parsley. The reality of their TV experience quickly set in as they were each mic’d up and welcomed by MasterChef judges, Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen. The Top 12 had no idea what secrets and surprises were hiding under their pressure test closhe.
After donning their aprons, our Top 12 learned they would be baking MasterChef Brownies, topped with raspberry gel, salted caramel, fancy whipped cream and gold leaf (obviously no Betty Croker packet mix here!).
Safe to say, chaos ensued, recipes caught fire, caramel was burned, many deconstructed dishes were served but, in the end, Brownie Royalty was crowned.
The day ended with a well-deserved drink, a few bruised egos, a band-aid or two, a couple of TikTok dances and a huge appreciation for what our real contestants go through.
Closer to launch, guests will receive a short video package and imagery from their ‘episode’ to post about their MasterChef journey, where you can see Jock humble and hero our guests.
