For National Reconciliation Week, we spoke with Michael Stanford and Rachael Brand, from Paramount ANZ Brand Studio, who both joined Paramount’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group at its inception in 2022.
We asked them why they joined the RAP Working Group and how it has impacted their work at Paramount ANZ.
Michael: We wanted to be part of how Paramount was planning to use its broadcast power and cultural influence in line with the company’s commitment to reconciliation. As part of the RAP working group, we collaborate to drive positive change in our departments and beyond, and we offer our commitment and skills to RAP related projects.
Rachael: It’s about getting involved, listening, learning and collaborating.
I’m currently working with a small (and awesome) group of people from different departments across Paramount on an education content series for young First Nations people about potential career paths in the media industry. The Pilot program will involve a collaboration with a Sydney based Indigenous youth centre, with the aim to share content and resources with more remote communities as part of the ongoing project. I’m always happy to get more people involved in this project across Paramount so the invitation is open to anyone who wants to get involved.
Michael: The work we’ve done with Mirri Mirri has been brilliant. Paul and the team have provided truly insightful cultural awareness training so together as a company we can advance meaningful action.
We work with Mirri Mirri as part of the RAP actions and often seek their guidance across campaigns and content. Paul and the team so generously share their knowledge in ways that make us feel inspired and motivated.
Rachael: A greater knowledge and understanding of First Nations history has changed the way we work, for the better. Paramount’s RAP is in the Innovate phase, there is still lots to be done and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Michael: We have seen positive change in how our teams have conversations with clients around reconciliation, how we present ideas to the market and how we work with First Nations organisations.
