Some Games Never End…
Paramount+ Australia today announced that the new original series, Playing Gracie Darling will premiere Thursday, 14 August, streaming all six episodes exclusively on Paramount+.
From Sony Pictures Television’s Curio Pictures (The Narrow Road to the Deep North, The Artful Dodger) this bold and compelling series explores the deep bonds of female friendship, the haunting power of memory, and a small town gripped by the unknown.
When Joni was fourteen, her best friend Gracie Darling disappeared during a séance. Twenty-seven years later, local teens still get their kicks ‘Playing Gracie Darling,’ a spooky game named after the girl who vanished. But when another young girl disappears under eerily similar circumstances, Joni is forced to confront her past and the secrets that never stayed buried.
Created and written by Miranda Nation (Undertow) and directed by Jonathan Brough (Rosehaven, The End), Playing Gracie Darling features an acclaimed international cast led by New Zealand powerhouse Morgana O’Reilly (The White Lotus Season 3, Friends Like Her) as Joni, Dame Harriet Walter (Succession, Ted Lasso) as Pattie, and Rudi Dharmalingam (Wakefield, The Lazarus Project) as Jay.
The stellar Australian cast includes Celia Pacquola (Love Me, Rosehaven) as Ruth, Annie Maynard (Colin From Accounts, Upper Middle Bogan) as Anita, Dan Spielman (The Code, New Gold Mountain) as Peter, and screen icon Anne Tenney (The Castle, A Country Practice) as Moira.
Filmed across New South Wales, from the scenic Hawkesbury River region to the rugged south coast, Playing Gracie Darling is set in a town where everyone knows each other, secrets are tightly held, and being different is impossible to hide.
Playing Gracie Darling is executive produced by producers Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner for Curio Pictures, Sophia Mogford for Paramount+, and series creator Miranda Nation. Laura Nagy joins as associate producer, with additional scripts from Anya Beyersdorf (Fake). Production Design is by Amy Baker (The New Boy, Plum), and Director of Photography is Martin McGrath (Muriel’s Wedding, Wakefield).
