MTV Shines A Light On Mental Health Awareness Month.

September 30, 2021

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, MTV is shinning a spotlight on mental health and wellbeing across the channels this October. With programming blocks focused on reflection, hope and support, MTV will be turning up the volume to support the initiative.

The moving new MTV Documentary film, Each And Every Day explores the experiences of young people and the urgency of talking about mental health. Premiering Sunday, 3 October at 7.50pm on MTV, the film is an exploration of mental health through the eyes of young people who share their personal stories in an intimate and engaging conversation that goes deep into their stories of depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns.

From the Peabody® Award-winning filmmaker Alexandra Shiva and producer Lindsey Megrue, the film features nine young people from the United States who have attempted suicide or had suicidal ideations and share their experiences in the ways they have sought help. Created in partnership with The Jed Foundation and executive produced by Sheila Nevins for MTV Documentary Films, the film seeks to share the uplifting message of hope, recovery and the importance of treatment and honest conversation.

Locally, MTV will collaborate with Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD), the Australian charity that exists to change young lives through music. MMAD uses the power of music, dance & mentoring to inspire young people to make their lives remarkable.

MTV Is set to exclusively premiere the annual MMAD music video, This Song Is For You on Friday, 8 October across the suite of MTV music channels. Written by Thandi Phoenix and Musicians Making A Difference, the song sets out to amplify a message of hope and is dedicated to other young people who may be in need of support.

To Celebrate MMAD Day on Friday, 15 October, MTV Hits will also showcase an exclusive music block titled #ThisSongIsForYou. For anyone out there going through a bit of a difficult time, use the hashtag and share the love by dedicating a song to a mate who may need a pick me up.

MTV Meditation is also returning this month to MTV Hits, with a 15 minute self-guided meditation under the watchful eye of MTV’s Zen Moon Person broadcasting each night at 10pm. And head to mtv.com.au for personal essays from young Aussies on mental health and the ways our writers are checking in on themselves this month.
