Deal or No Deal is BACK! Every episode is a high-pressure, high-stakes game of risk versus reward in which contestants face a series of potentially life-altering decisions. Much like our exclusive* chat with host and TV Week Gold Logie award winner, Grant Denyer.
You can catch the return of this iconic series every weeknight at 6pm on 10 and 10 Play. Have we got a deal?
*Exclusive to award winning internal publications only.
We are PUMPED to have Deal or No Deal back on our screens, here at The Water Cooler. What were your expectations coming in to the show?
It’s much more exciting than a quiz show, it’s a glamourous party atmosphere with far more riches on offer than most other shows. Unlike others, big wins aren’t out of reach on the Deal. You just have to make a couple of good decisions, hold your nerve and you can be walking out rich.
What do you love most about hosting the show? What has surprised you so far?
I didn’t think it would be THIS good. I’ve bitten all the nails off my fingers, I’ve ugly cried, I’ve laughed until I almost puked, and more importantly, I’ve helped people achieve their dreams. Whether it’s to buy the car of their dreams, paying for an important medical procedure, rebuilding their home or even affording a baby… it’s so good being a game show Santa Clause. That makes me so happy.
You’ve given away a lot of money to everyday Aussie’s over the years. Do you still get that same sense of excitement when people win?
I love being a human ATM handing out massive amounts of cash to great Australians, it’s honestly the greatest feeling in the world. But to get there, players must make smart choices that don’t always work out. But with great risk comes great reward and those who can hold their nerve are spectacularly rewarded and the celebrations are hectic and emotional. It’s powerful stuff to be there when that happens. I absolutely love it.
You are always such a bubbly, ray of sunshine when you’re on our screens. What do you do when you need to switch off and be the Grant Denyer off camera?
I like to spend my down time at home in Bathurst with my family, fixing fences, playing with the kids and getting my adrenaline rush from racing cars.
Have any of the interviews you’ve done not mentioned Megan Markle?
No, she’s really stolen my thunder.
