Last week was Indigenous Football Week where the standout John Moriarty Charity Football took place, featuring a team of Paramount firecrackers who made it all the way to the Grand Final!
Led by captain Robbie Thomson, Team Paramount was made up of Niav Owens, Tara Rushton, Daniel McBreen, Alex Brosque, Grace Gill, Phil Moss, Tristan McManus, Annabelle Quigley, Daniel McBriarty and Simon Hill.
The Water Cooler caught up with Captain Robbie Thomson in a post-match exclusive where he had this to say, “Celebrating Indigenous Football Week, the glittering stars of the hastily assembled Paramount+ football team spent a spectacular afternoon at the John Moriarty Foundation charity football tournament at Allianz stadium in Sydney, making it all the way to the grand final, going down 6-5 in a thrilling showpiece finale that will doubtless still be talked about in years to come.
“Led by the goal scoring heroics of Grace Gill and Daniel McBreen, the tenacious defending of Tara Rushton and Tristan MacManus (dispelling generally accepted myths about hosts) and the inspiration leadership of goalkeeper and coach Phil ‘The Wall’ Moss, the team exceeded all expectations. As elegant midfielder and former Socceroo Alex Brosque philosophically mused after the final whistle: ‘You have to lose one, to win one.’
“While physios and osteopaths across the city deal with the aftermath of our strained and stiff bodies, eyes will eventually turn, with renewed ambition, to next year’s event.”
Over $55,000 was raised for the John Moriarty Foundation. A fantastic effort!
