Meet Matt McDonnell!
Matt has recently taken on the role of Senior Finance Director, TV Media in our Sydney office.
We sat down to crunch some numbers with Matt and get advice on how to consolidate our assets and invest in Bitcoin. After kindly breaking the news that he is not a financial advisor, we got to know Matt well!
What is your role and what does it entail?
As Senior Finance Director, TV Media, I oversee all 10, 10 Play, Pluto and Pay TV from a commercial finance perspective, including actuals, forecasting and business cases.
Tell us about your career journey so far and what made you want to join Team Paramount?
I’ve spent most of my career in media including Foxtel, MCN, BBC Studios, VIMN, EMI music and Warner Music.
What interested me initially was the depth and quality of content coupled with a strong range of platforms. Add onto that the great things I had heard about the team here, it seemed like a win to be able to join Paramount!
If someone sees you making a coffee in the kitchen, what’s a sure fire way to strike up a conversation with you?
-
- Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself with an honest, “Hi, we haven’t met, I’m…” – I’m keen to meet as many people as possible and understand how everyone fits into the business!
- Tell me what you’re watching at the moment.
- You’ll get me talking with, “How about those Eels?”
- Or for the AFL fans, “How about those Swannies?”
Who is Matt McDonell outside the world of finance? What do you love and what is your most irrational fear?
My hobbies include cannon balls in the pool with my seven-year-old son, tea parties with my three-year-old daughter, or just a good day at the beach.
I have a lot of irrational superstitious fears – it’s really annoying. For example, if I drop a sharp knife I can’t pick it up, someone else will have to pick it up for me. Otherwise it’s bad luck!
What’s something you want to do in 2023?
I want to get my boat license. I love being out on the water, but know very little about driving a boat!
