Have You Met Matt?
There are a couple miracle workers that reside here at Paramount. And our good friend, Matt Doust is one of them. As Studio Supervisor and Technical Specialist, Matt looks after the operations of the Sydney Studios and like most people in that team, does so with a huge smile on his face and a nothing-is-a-problem attitude. Matt sat down with the Editor of The Water Cooler over a robust cup of the finest arabica coffee, originating from the southwestern highlands of Ethiopia and a toasted reuben sambo from Craig’s Kitchen.
What is your role and what does it entail?
My role is Studio Supervisor and Technical Specialist. I manage the day-to-day operations of our Sydney Studios and I support a fantastic studio team so that they can do great work. I’m also a Mosart superuser and look after forward planning for incoming shows and equipment.
What do you love most about working at Paramount?
I love the people and culture. Everyone is approachable and always happy to have a chat. Being part of a tight-knit team who make great content every single day is exciting for me, even after 12 years!
What are the challenges in your role?
Our studios are BUSY. Add to that breaking news requirements or technical issues and it becomes a very challenging environment. Thankfully, we have a dedicated and super hardworking team who, in a time of crisis, adapt and pull together to keep us on-air. The other challenge is that the coffee shop on level 4 closes by 3pm.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“You should try the reuben sandwich!” – Craig from the Level 4 café.
Who is the Matt Doust outside of work? What do you love to do on weekends?
I’m a coffee enthusiast, musician, photographer, and I love gardening. On a rainy day you’ll find me inside baking to satisfy my sweet tooth. I am married to Laura, and we have three kids. I love being part of the chaos at home. It’s a fun but exhausting time of life!
Finally, what’s your favourite show to watch on 10 or P+?
My favourite shows are Have You Been Paying Attention? and Gogglebox Australia. They are truly laugh-out-loud material! I’m also really looking forward to Season 2 of Hunted.
