Amanda Jessup heads up 10’s styling. Amanda tells us what she loves most about her job, how she got to where she is and the biggest piece of advice she’d give her younger self.
Tell us about your role and what it entails?
Head of Network Styling, overseeing the look of network talent across Programming, Publicity, Promo’s and Events.
What do you love most about it and what are the challenges?
The diversity of my role keeps me engaged and challenged, I love working with a talented and creative team.
Challenges include tight deadlines, multi-tasking, and relying on designers and couriers to deliver on time!
How did you get to where you are today?
I started as a Hair and Make-up artist at Nine when I was 20, I then went on to freelancing at Seven, ABC, SBS, Foxtel and 10 before accepting a fulltime Wardrobe Hair & Makeup role at 10.
I thought I would only stay a year, here I am 18 years later.
Have you always wanted to be a stylist or did you think you’d end up doing something completely different?
I have always loved fashion, however never wanted to be a costume designer (I’m terrible at sewing). Thank goodness year 10 work experience at a preschool wasn’t for me and changed my direction.
What advice would you give to your younger self just starting out?
Keep a journal of your experiences and stories. 28 years in television, and I would have had a best seller!
