Foo Fighters Set To Receive First Ever Global Icon Award At 2021 MTV VMAs.

After a long and storied history with MTV, Foo Fighters will receive the first ever MTV VMAs Global Icon Award at this year’s show, airing live on Monday, 13 September at 8.30am on MTV.

Hailing from MTV’s Europe Music Awards (EMAs), the uber prestigious Global Icon Award celebrates an artist/band whose unparalleled career and continued impact & influence has maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond. The VMAs will honour the Global Icon who has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve.  Past recipients include Queen, Eminem and Whitney Houston, among others.

Foo Fighters are set to perform at this year’s VMAs, marking their return to the iconic stage for the first time since 2007.

They have scored three VMAs nominations this year:

    • Best Rock: “Shame Shame”
    • Best Choreography: “Shame Shame”
    • Best Cinematography: “Shame Shame”

First nominated in 1996 for “Big Me” in four categories (Video of the Year, Best Group Video, Best Alternative Video, Best Direction), they have a total of two VMAs wins (1996 won Best Group Video “Big Me”; 2011 won Best Rock “Walk”). Most recently they took home a Moon Person in 2011 for “Walk” (Best Rock Video).

Foo Fighters have had many memorable VMAs moments over the years, including their debut performance in 1997, performing “Monkey Wrench” and “Everlong” during the pre-show. And the epic 2007 Foo Fighters Fantasy Suite show, performing multiple hits which also included guest stars Cee-Lo, Motorhead’s Lemmy and System of the Down’s Serj Tankian.
