Behind The Scenes With Beau Ryan

October 3, 2023

The Water Cooler caught up over coffee with Beau Ryan on the Publicity couch, between the whirlwind press schedule for The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition and the announcement of his newest role as Gladiators co-host with Liz Ellis.

Beau takes us behind the scenes of The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition and has a surprising tip for how he handled around-the-world jetlag.

The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition. This is juicy! What did you love most about filming this season?

I loved the places we went to. I’ve never been to Malaysia before, that was incredible.

And seeing a different side to the celebrities. Seeing them work under pressure and seeing their attachment and how close they were to their charities was really something special.

Which celebrity duo surprised you the most and why?

Emma Watkins and her sister Hayley dig deep and have ‘win-at-all-costs’ attitudes. Both are super tough, relatable and popular. They were fantastic!

This is your third round of filming The Amazing Race. Have you got jetlag down pat? What are your tricks for getting through the burnout?

Yeah, I have a system with jetlag. I try and stick to the finishing time.

So, for example, we were in India and although I had to wake up at 4am for the first week, I had to keep myself on Asian time the whole time because we were about to finish in Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur. So, I try and stay on the time zone of the last few cities.

What can you tell us about the challenges this season? Did you go harder on the contestants?

I did go hard on the contestants but obviously, I had in mind that it was brutal with heat wave conditions. The challenges were tough, they’re always tough, but this year, the weather conditions hurt them more than the challenges.

What was your favourite destination to film in this season? Where will you take the family back to visit?

Borneo was beautiful. I’d love to go back there with the family. It was something else, and I’ll definitely go back there.

Malaysia was also surprising to me and somewhere I want to go back to, to enjoy the history and the culture.

The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition.

Premieres Wednesday, 4 October at 7.30pm.
