And the Emmy Goes To…

August 23, 2022

It’s not every day our staff get nominated for an International Emmy Award, let along three of them! Naomi Elkin, Executive Producer, Post on The Dog House Australia, along with Editors Simon-Callow-Wright and John Rosser have been nominated for Outstanding Picture Editing for their work on Love on the Spectrum U.S. We spoke to Naomi about the nomination and her role here at Paramount. Huge congratulations to Naomi, Simon and John!

Congratulations on your Emmy nomination! How did it feel when you found out you were nominated?

It’s extremely exciting for the whole team. Many of us have worked together across the last decade, including the Australian version of the series, so for everyone to be acknowledged in this way for the U.S series feels very special.

What is your current role on The Dog House Australia and what does it entail?

My current role is Executive Producer of Post on The Dog House Australia. It’s an incredibly diverse role, one day you will be out on a shoot overseeing interviews ensuring we are capturing the build blocks to tell each story, another day you might be structuring the episodes in the edit. I manage a team editors and producers to craft the episodes and deliver them on time. It’s incredibly creative which I love.

What do you love most about your role?

I love the energy amongst the team, working together to create episodes and tell the stories of the contributors who put their trust in us.

For people aspiring to become producers themselves, what skills are most important to have?

Overall I would say curiosity, always asking questions and giving people a chance to really tell their story, not the one you think they should tell.  You can often be asking people quite personal questions so as a producer I think it’s really important to be very open yourself and make people feel safe. I’m always so grateful to the people who share their stories with us, you literally learn something every day.

What do you love to do outside of work?

Outside of work I’m a bit of a history buff, I like to travel to historical sites and find out how the past now plays out into the local culture today. I also have background in live art installation so much of my spare time is spent going to the theatre.
