Airport 24/7 Cleared For Take-Off

May 28, 2025

It’s time to stow your tray tables and fasten your seatbelts as new docuseries Airport 24/7 is cleared for take-off on Thursday, 5 June at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play.

Filmed at Melbourne Airport, Australia’s busiest 24-hour runway to the world, the series takes viewers behind the scenes of what it takes to keep 35 million passengers and thousands of flights passing through the terminal.

Network 10 Executive Producer Ciaran Flannery said the production was given exclusive access to restricted areas and captured high-pressure moments that are gripping viewing.

“The thing that really sets this series apart is that we have genuine access to ALL areas. From the air traffic control tower to the baggage handlers, the Integrated Operations Centre to the teams that turn the aircraft around for the next flight.

“There is huge complexity and intense pressure at every part of the process – and it’s the team of dedicated staff who keep everything moving so smoothly.” said Ciaran.

“They are the stars of our show and quite often, heroes, given the severity of some of the emergencies and threats they deal with.

“But away from the serious business of passenger safety and keeping the runways moving, it’s the quirky and surprising moments that will stick with audiences.

“Whether it be kangaroos in the multi-storey car park, illegal beehives close to the runway or literally beer leaking from roof pipes on to the baggage handling area, no two days are the same at Melbourne Airport!”

Ciaran said that Melbourne Airport, Jetstar Airways, Border Security and Airservices Australia were superb production partners and thanked them for their support and willingness to give the production team from ITV Studios Australia behind the scenes access.

“Melbourne Airport threw open their doors and welcomed in the production team and we’re incredibly grateful for their support and willingness to take us behind the scenes of their busy airport,” added Ciaran.

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the show would shine a light on the brilliant teams that work behind the scenes to keep Melbourne Airport running 24/7.

“The backbone of Melbourne Airport is our team, and I’m thrilled that the show will highlight the incredible work our operational teams do every day.

“It takes thousands of amazing people working around the clock, 365 days a year to keep Melbourne Airport running smoothly.

“It’s a privilege to get to lead this team, one that I am grateful for every single day, ” commented Lorie.

The series is set to tap into burgeoning aviation interest with enormous growth seen in ‘aerophiles’ or aviation enthusiasts who flock to events, online communities and social media to follow certain flight routes, review in-flight experiences, spot aircraft and view live feeds of airports with popular examples such as Sam Chui Aviation and Travel on YouTube with more than 3.2 million subscribers and Airliners Live that has amassed more than 1.52 million subscribers.

Airport 24/7 is produced by ITV Studios Australia for Network 10 and is narrated by frequent flyer and funny woman Susie Youssef.
