Last Saturday was the 2022 South32 Rottnest Channel Swim, and, once again, our Perth team had all hands on deck as official TV/BVOD media partner. The iconic WA event was a great success despite extremely tough weather conditions that saw wind speeds of 20 knots (37km) and swells over one metre high.
10 News First Perth Sport Presenter, Lachy Reid, kicked off bright and early at 4.30am at the Cottesloe Beach start line to send the waves of swimmers off. Journalists Claire Dearle and Lee Steele were stationed at the finish line calling participants over with camera crew Carl Nelson, Chris Lange and News Social Producer, Phoebe Murray, who were all there to capture the colour and emotion of the day.
Karl Carosella (Ops), Ashley Woodrow, Rosie Sargent and Jess Cameron (Sales) trained for months to prepare for the 19.7km open water swim and were joined by support crew Nathan Hill (Ops) and Jake Staunton (Ops) as paddlers.
Across all departments, the Perth team worked hard to support this event and it would not have been possible without everyone’s combined efforts.
Paul Townsend, General Manager & Sales Director – Perth, said: “The Rotto Swim is an iconic event on the WA calendar and we are proud to be involved as a sponsor. It is a spectacular sight to witness swimmers and support crews battle the elements and I’d like to say a big well done to our staff team and all who participated.
“Thanks to all who worked behind the scenes across all departments on bringing this event to life and here’s to many more years of sponsoring the event. Maybe I’ll have a go and swim one year….?”
