Let’s Get PROUD!

This week, we are celebrating the launch of PROUD. An Employee Resource Group created to enrich the professional and personal development of LGBTIQ+ employees and allies by advocating for community, key causes and an inclusive culture.

Made up of dedicated staff who volunteer their time, passion and creativity, PROUD is led by Shannon Claridge, Kate Doak, Daniel Monaghan, Catherine Donovan, Jean Jenkins, Kate Reuvers and Helen Tran.

We spoke with Shannon Claridge to find out everything we need to know about PROUD.

What is PROUD and how did it come to be?

PROUD is an internal Employee Resource Group (ERG) dedicated to enriching the professional and personal development of LGBTIQ+ employees and allies by championing community, key causes and an inclusive culture. Globally, PROUD exists within markets across the globe and with Australia launching their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan in 2021, the creation of an ERG was the next step in the action plan.

Why do we need a PROUD ERG?

Creating a safe work environment for all employees is paramount. We know our employees care about inclusivity within the workplace and thrive on our mission to ‘bring your whole self to work’. As our first ERG, Proud will continue supporting the LGBTIQ+ group internally, but also champion the voices of the group within the community and on-screen. This initiative (and any future ERG) are employee led, ensuring that the business supports topics and issues that are important to our workforce.

What initial steps have PROUD taken in these early stages?

Proud have already locked in two partnership deals with organisations that will propel the mission of the group and give access to valuable resources.

The Pinnacle Foundation work towards supporting LGBTIQ+ youth in their education and we look forward to exploring and supporting future charity events and educational opportunities in-house.

Pride in Diversity are the leading employer support program for organisations and we will continue seeking their advice on how we can better our policies, governance and training. We have recently worked with them to create a Gender Affirmation Leave policy that is now available for any employee going through the gender affirmation process.

Proud has also secured marching and audience spots in the 2022 Mardi Gras march – all employees are welcome to the available tickets.

Where can our employees go to learn more about PROUD? Is there an opportunity for other staff members to join the group?

Employees can find all relevant information on PROUD and the actions taken so far on our staff intranet via this link.

We invite all voices to join PROUD – the group meet every fortnight to discuss action points and brainstorm creatively how our unique voice in the market can better support LGBTIQ+ .

Please email peoplehub@networkten.com.au to join!
