Helen Biggs

Series Producer

What is your role and what does it entail?

I’m a Series Producer. I have worked in editorial and post-production on three series of The Dog House Australia, and in post-production on both of the Dogs Behaving Very Badly series.

Supporting my Executive Producer, Naomi Elkin, I supervise the editorial team to ensure we tell the best stories possible. With The Dog House Australia, I work with so many amazing people to bring the stories to life from an editorial point of view – the casting team, story producers and researchers, shooter producers, and the Animal Welfare League team. We film around 48 groups of dog seekers, over a seven-week period, and then we head into post! I love the role as it allows me to be across the stories from casting right through to seeing the finished episode go to air.

What’s been your career journey so far?

I have been working freelance in the TV production industry for over 25 years. I have worked on many different shows. Many I have loved, some I am happy to leave off my CV!  My last job before The Dog House Australia was for the SBS series Who Do You Think You Are? where I researched, wrote and directed various episodes over five series. I love working in TV production because I truly believe every single person has an interesting story to tell – you just have to know how to pull it out of them!

What do you love most about working at Paramount and specifically on The Dog House?

The people I work with! We work really hard, but we also have a great time, laugh a lot, and help each other in the crazy times. I don’t think I’ve ever worked in a place where I have had so much fun and feel so supported at the same time. Oh, and the dogs are gorgeous too!

Who is the Helen Biggs outside of Paramount? Where would we find you on the weekend?

I am busy! I have three kids, two still living at home. I live in Redfern so you will normally find me at a café or restaurant or walking my rescue dog (who grew A LOT bigger than we thought). I also love to sing, much to my children’s horror. I have sung in choirs all my life and still sing in a local group.  I also jump at the chance to go and see musicals and theatre. You can’t keep me away from Club Broadway or Pub Choir! And finally, I love travelling. Luckily my partner works for Qantas so we jump at the chance to use that staff travel and go away as much as we can.

What are your Top 3 favourite Instagram account?

Do I have to pick three? My favourites change all the time! Anything to do with dogs.  I love @thedogist, @betootaadvocate (so funny and clever!) and my latest find is @colleenlandrycomedy (but I also LOVE @celestebarber!).
